Happy World Mental Health Day!

A few days ago I posted something on my Facebook wall asking friends to link me up with any mental health experts, doctors, or survivors. While many commented and provided the information I was looking for, there was only one friend that reached out to ask if I was ok. As it turns out, I needed the information for my research for one of my freelance gigs.

However, I was deeply moved by my friend Clive who happened to be the only person that had it in his heart to find out how I was doing given the type of info I was seeking. Clive, you are awesome. I’m so blessed to have you as a friend.

When was the last time you genuinely checked up on a friend?

Today being World Mental Health Day, I thought I should give a shout out to all mental health survivors, care givers, experts, doctors, and just about everyone affected by mental illness one way or another.

Am I suffering from any mental illness? Not right now. In the past, yes, definitely. I do get stressed every now and then, from work related issues, life in general, relationships…and mostly men issues. 😀

If you are wondering, yes, stress is indeed a mental health problem. Just as depression or schizophrenia is. Any moody people in the house? Yep, same category. There’s nothing shameful about suffering from a mental illness. We’ve all struggled with one or two at one point or another in our lives…sometimes without even knowing it.

FUN FACT:

Zambians and Africans across the continent are affected by mental health. It is NOT just an American or European issue.

The theme for this year’s World Mental Health Day is;

YOUNG PEOPLE AND MENTAL HEALTH IN A CHANGING WORLD

I know A Lot of young people! You probably are too. Yes. So lets all get learning, caring and participating in all things mental health!

Click here to learn more about types of mental illnesses/disorders and find out how best you or a loved one can be helped. And thanks to my research, I happen to know a couple or so professionals that can help steer you back to good health in no time. So, message me. 😉
